I decided to make a high quality (4K Video) and very detailed look at the gas tank removal on my son's 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ. I believe there will be subtle differences year to year, but this should be helpful for any TJ owner looking to drop their tank... either to replace a rear bumper, replace the fuel tank skid plate, change out a fuel pump, or make room to work in the rear of the Jeep.
The actual tank removal isn't that difficult. The space it gives to work back there is well worth the time to remove it, in my opinion.
I also cover in close-up detail how to disconnect the fuel line connectors (which was another thing I was searching for info for). These are simple push connectors, and were very easy once I understood how they worked.

Installation of Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier - Project 2004 TJ Wrangler
I helped CJ install his Smittybilt SRC rear bumper and tire carrier. We had a few challenges, but we got it done as usual. I let him do most of the work on this one while I was working on my own Jeep.
This is the bumper and tire carrier combo:

As you can see in the video, we didn't get the final mounting bolts in because we will need to drop the fuel tank, and we just weren't ready to do that yet. We'll do that part later.

Stock Rear Bumper, Tire Carrier, and Tow Receiver Removal - Project 2004 TJ Wrangler
In this video CJ removes his stock rear bumper and tire carrier, as well as the Reese tow receiver that was installed. The flag broke on one of the nuts for the tow receiver, so I just grabbed an angle grinder and cut off the bolt... problem solved! We also had to preserve some wildlife during this video. Really. Seriously. Watch.
This is in prep for the Smittybilt Rear Bumper and tire carrier that is going on. We got it from http://extremeterrain.com - but more on that later.
