  2. cpo, try Daystar d-ring isolators for your metal d-rings they keep them from banging against your bumper.

  3. I still use one D ring on front to hold winch hook, it does not move at all

  4. You are confusing "Breaking Strength" with Working Load Limit.  Most 3/4" D rings are rated at 4.75 tons Working Load Limit or WLL.  WLL is assigned by the manufacturer and it is not to exceed one-third of the complete assembly breaking strength.

So 4.75 ton WLL rated D ring has AT LEAST 28,500 breaking strength.  Many major manufacturers rate their D rings' WLL at 1/5 material breaking strength.  So a quality D ring rated at 4.75 tons WLL will have a breaking strength of 47,500 lbs.

You are comparing WLL of steel to the breaking strength of synthetic rope.  Apples and Oranges.  If you're in the business of making or selling any type of load bearing rigging, you should know the difference.  In fact it's unlikely that you don't know the difference and more likely intentionally misleading potential customers.

  5. Proper term is Screw Pin Anchor Shackle....
    D-ring is something else entirely.
    Damn neophytes..

  6. I can assure you that a 3/4 shackle is stronger than the rope. Definatley not a 1/3 of the strength of the rope, that was kind of a ridiculous statement. Although it is a cool product, many uses and it'll get the job done.

  7. A couple pf these would be AWESOME for hooking two straps together. I have personally seen one of those 3/4 shackels go through a bumper because it was used to attach two straps, and one strap broke. It was a missle.

  8. Sir, nice demonstration of the Gator Jaw. You clearly show how it is attached. The WLL comments are useful as well and not meant to be critical. Still, for simple towing, within weight limits the Gator Jaw is preferred. Information is everything!

  9. The metal 3/4 shackles are rated for 4-5 tons working loads with a 3 to 1 safety margin minimum(most are 5 to 1).

I'm sure you have been told already how off you are on your shackle synopsis, so I'll leave that alone. These soft shackles are fairly easy to tie on your own, with the key being the tightening up of the button knot. I can't imagine buying something as simple as this when I could just buy the Amsteel rope and make about 6 or 8 in and hour.

  12. I stopped watching when you stated the stamped WLL of the shackle was its breaking strength
