It was time to change that fluid and filter in my Jeep, which has the 5-Speed Auto W5A580 Transmission. Here's the parts list for this service:
52108332-AA Gasket (Optional but recommended)
52108325-AA Filter
68218057-AB ATF+4 Fluid
Also, as mentioned in the video, here's the Topsider MVP that I used:
https://amzn.to/2JvJ0xI There are other extractors on the market... some cheaper and some more expensive. I just liked this one.

That's pretty awesome man. Love that top sider!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you had leveled the trans first if you'd have gotten more of the fuid out side the top sider.
ReplyDeleteCPO...
ReplyDeleteGreat vid as always.
I too am at 60k and waiting for winter to break. Lots of stuff on the shelf that needs attention.
You’ve reminded me that I have a decent oil extractor in the attic that needs to be put into service for this.
Thanks for your many tips and again as always, great job :)

Mityvac has a nice fluid evacuator too for like $55 too. I think that one is 8 litres then they have bigger ones. I bought it for different reasons but may be a good idea
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
ReplyDeleteI actually think maybe I could have repumped it and gotten more out I'm not sure if it ran out of vacuum before it fully finished... I do know there was still a lot dripping and draining from the transmission after I dropped the pan...so much of that could have just settled after I stopped pumping.
ReplyDeleteNicce job CPO, like the topsider idea!
ReplyDeleteHey Chris just curious, did you look into doing synthetic fluid as a refill? And is there even such a thing for a transmission?
ReplyDeleteI run Royal Purple in my engine and have been wondering about what to use when I do my transmission.
Thanks for all you do buddy!

Honestly didn't even look into it... I too run synthetic in the engine.
Merci encore Superbe 👍
At 18:26 someone was pointing a red dot on you... great info in the vid.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this video. When I am ready to change mine, I will use this as one of my reference point for sure. The thing about doing maintenance myself is those tricky parts about getting at bolts and even breaking them free. Good tips in here to do that with this!
ReplyDeleteNice only 49,990 more miles to go to do my 2016 JKU. Thank god for my take home patrol car I but little miles on my Jeep. Great clean job there CPO
ReplyDeleteExcellent video Overclocked, Thank you!!👍
ReplyDeleteHa. That's the laser parking guide for my wife. :-)
ReplyDeletebeaucoup plus d huile car il y en a aussi dans le convertisseur
ReplyDeleteI miss having a take home car!
ReplyDeleteall the oil is not drained,
ReplyDeleteStephane Bearnais you are right. About 3 quarts are still in the cooling lines and various crevises in the tranny. You're more than welcome to do a fluid flush if you want....
ReplyDeleteautomatic gearboxes are fragile, and doing just half of the emptying is risky. the humidity must be avoided. here is the right way to do it, but you need a machine and it's expensive. I prefer a well-equipped specialist to do it.
ReplyDeleteBut I like your videos, TIP TOP.

Is there oil in the torque converter?
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your roll bar covers from? They look pretty nice!
ReplyDeleteYes. This was not a flush. That's the only way to replace all of the fluid. According from what I see in the service manual, you end up changing out 4-5 out of 8 qts with this process (so a little more than half the total fluids).
ReplyDeleteThey are Bartact... But they never put them into production. This was a test set.
ReplyDeleteYeah... Flush is one if those things I'd likely take to someone else... Lots of various opinions on this topic for sure!
ReplyDeleteGreat video on the change. I like the additional comments about the flush. It's always good to be well informed. I am curious...no engine or trans skid plate? Seems like you offroad a lot and your transmission pan doesn't a mark on it.
ReplyDeleteGreat video!
ReplyDeleteNeeds to be in neutral when checking your transmission fluid lever all Chrysler and jeep products. Says right on your dipstick.
ReplyDeleteDave Lucero The owners manual says different. I'll defer to that...
ReplyDelete5. Place the shift lever momentarily into each gear position (allowing time for the transmission to fully engage in each position), ending with the transmission in
PARK.
6. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it until
seated.
7. Remove the dipstick again and note the fluid level on
both sides.
Nice and simple clarification. Thanks. Steve
ReplyDeleteI have a 2011 with 112k miles and the transmission fluid is black . What do you may think it is . That’s how I bought it
ReplyDeleteObeyValencia way overdue for a change!
ReplyDeleteObeyValencia it's probably never been serviced
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping that’s the issue . It shifts good . Im going to take it to jeep this week to get it looked at . Thanks !
