I got the dreaded "the Jeep won't start" call from my son this afternoon. Hey, stuff happens, and it's not a big deal. I'm just glad it failed to start at home, where it was easy to work on. Here's my process of troubleshooting to determine it was the starter... and then the quick and super easy replacement.

Very nice video. Thanks for sharing 😊✌
ReplyDeletebtw- I just had a new starter installed in a Silverado. Now when I start the truck, my clock resets. I figured I had a bad battery or ground. But the battery stays at 11.9 volts when not running and 14.1 when running, and my grounds are tight.
Great job troubleshooting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I wish I never sold my '99 TJ, it was the best vehicle I ever owned.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the cable from battery to starter is tight... (less likely) or if the battery may be dying and drops too low of voltage during the starting period (most likely). You can take it to an autoparts store and have it load tested... but tbh... an 11.9 voltage at rest is pretty low.
ReplyDeletethe starter did not sound good in last video! GREAT VIDEOS!
ReplyDeleteYeah... it was a little lethargic! lol
ReplyDeleteOn a super hot day, like 90 plus does the Jeep engine ever get hotter then usual, I was driving my Jeep and the gadge was hovering the dead center of the gadge, also the day before I get out of the car and I heard gurgling and the engine coolant seemed to be boiling. Keep in mind it was 93 out
ReplyDeleteGood test for verifying the starter. Also, great camera work.
