=====================================

In this video, I go over the pre-installation preparation before installing the Omega Excalibur AL-1775-3DB Security Alarm and Remote Start. I show you which wires you need, and which ones you don't if you are installing a similar system into a later model Jeep Wrangler. Mine is a 2015.

Additionally, I show you where all of the components connect to the brain, how to install the Blade, 18-Pin Harness, vehicle specific t-harness, backup battery, motion proximity sensor, shock sensor, siren, hood pin and "mercury" switch (tilt sensor).

So you want to install an alarm system and remote start into your Jeep Wrangler? Well… this is the page for you! What follows below is the complete video series regarding the selection, overview, installation, setup, and howtos of the Omega Excalibur AL-1775-3DB security system and remote start I installed in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler with automatic transmission. If you happen to have the same vehicle (including similar years) then this page should be a step-by-step guide for you. If you have a manual transmission, there will be some additional steps and wiring for you, and what exactly depends on what year your Jeep is. I tried to mention some of those things throughout the video series. If you have a 2017 or newer, also note that the access to the ignition switch harness is a little different. I’ll also try and help you out there.

Please watch all of the videos BEFORE YOU START your own installation. This is important because I may point out things in later videos that would be helpful to know about early on. It’s just part of the process. Once I get into the install, I know more about what exactly needs to be done, versus what I believe needs to be done. A great example of this is the wiring for the parking lights. In the wiring prep video, I told you that you needed three wires for this because that was the industry standard based on how the Jeeps were wired. However, in actual testing during the install (and working closely with the tech guys at Omega Research and Development) I found that only one wire was really needed. So I modified the harness from the original 9 wires, down to 7!! BONUS!!!

  1. Nice video. Gives user a good visual reference for self install basics.
Question, why you go with this brand and model compared to others such as the Vipers etc.
Was is cost? Ease of install? Proprietary tech?
I'd be interested in your decision factors as I'm looking at alarms to protect my Jeep.

  2. +David Kay asked me why this brand and model... It was a valid question. Here's the scoop:

I'm not sure if you saw this or not, but I covered a lot of the why in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8SFtwmeZkA > Here's some more info tho... All of the major alarms seem to have similar basic functionality, So it boils down to things like brand reputation, those little extras that are proprietary/patented, where the company is going in the future, and ease of install. When was researching, I looked HARD at Viper. I was running car alarms in the late 80s/90s and Viper was the one to have. I didn't run them because they were expensive and you had to have a dealer install them. I was running things like Crimestoppers or whatever I could get and install myself (don't remember now, actually). It was pre-internet so it was basically what I could find locally (maybe even Excalibur).

Anyway... Viper has been known to be the one of the top brands... but I just couldn't get comfortable with them. They are not interested in the self install market at all, and in fact, when I went to their website - they wouldn't even tell me what system met my requirements, they just gave me an option to contact a dealer. I know people buy them on ebay and amazon and DIY them...but their warranty doesn't cover DIY installs (as far as I am aware). And while they do have a blade-like modular capability, I couldn't find anything as easy to install as the Excalibur. Maybe it's out there...but they have harnesses for data immobilizer bypass boxes that you have to add and they only cover remote start, etc. etc. It was complicated.

Then I stumbled across Omega in my research as a highly recommended brand, and I went to check them out. I didn't know at the time that they were the ones who made Excalibur (which was a brand I was familiar with). I liked their product, and features, and could browse around their website and see exactly what I could buy for my Jeep. Then I called them and talked to some tech support guy to ask a few questions. He was very nice, knowledgeable, conversational, and even better... helpful. It was during that conversation that he actually pointed me to a different system than I thought I wanted... because what I thought I wanted wasn't the best fit (even though it was a flagship model). That was cool... usually companies try and push the flagship... but he pointed me to a better unit for me... not the most expensive one.

Finally, it was during that conversation that I learned that they were just about to release that new T-Harness which will fit my Jeep that offered integration from the security, remote start, and keyless entry side of things. We talked for a long time about how that new harness, combined with the blade, would be a super easy DIY install. As it turned out, they had a pre-production harness in the shop that they were willing to send to me - noting that the production lot would be available for sale in just a few weeks.

So, I was sold. Great customer service, super easy install, well regarded company, great features... That's what landed me there. Then I got connected with the gang at kickyride.com and they were nice enough to give me a discount code for my viewers and even better, to put together some packages that makes it super easy to follow along with my install video and have exactly the right products to get there. I'm getting amazing tech support and install guidance, and you get 10% off. Pretty good deal, lol.

Wow... I shouldn't comment on YouTube during my morning coffee... I seem to get a little long winded. Sorry about that. Anyway... this wasn't a Viper bash... many people still love them. I just used that reference since that's the brand you brought up. Eventually you just have to go with what you feel comfortable with. Thanks for the question!

  4. OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps that's an excellent response. Thank you. Tbh, I was expecting the "see my previous video" reply because you did lightly cover some of your decision points with the Omega.
I'm impressed that you expanded on it in a big way. As you know Viper has one of the biggest names, and yes, their flagship looks robust. But so is the price and requires dealer install. It's one I have been looking at with all the bells and whistles, but it's been quoted a $1300 install. Ouch

I'm also impressed because the Excalibur model you're doing isn't their flagship either in price points, although does seem to be a newer release, which is good. I priced out your full system and it's sub $300 which is amazing for the features.

I really look forward to seeing how the rest of this install goes.
And hope they get that new harness out in the market soon, because I want to buy.

If I can ask another question, how does this alarm deal with signal interception and other high tech capture methods?

    Well done.

  5. That's a great question... I actually asked the same thing. ;-) Here's the answer.

The Excalibur AL-1775-3DB uses Keeloq encryption/rolling code technology which is just as high security as you can get for civilian RF. It is the same technology that Viper, Prestige, OEMs, and most other reputable companies are utilizing today. They have also coupled it with spread spectrum technology (SST) that uses a wideband frequency spectrum making it harder to detect or interfere with than traditional RF technologies.

If you like technical reading... here's some interesting info on Keeloq and SST:

  6. At the risk of looking like an idiot... what is EOSS?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I thought you might be ex-Navy "CPO"= Chief Petty Officer (Snipe Type) The EOSS= Engineering Operational Sequencing System & EOCC =Engineering Operational Casualty Control.. these "Guide books" are used by sailors to perform certain duties for the operation of equipment onboard ship.

  8. Good video, I have a factory alarm/ security system.. don't know which would be better.. I just pull fuel relay and lock the hood if I'm in a sketchy area.. Its a pain doing that though.

  9. Hal 9000 ahh... That explains why I had no idea what you were talking about. Nope. Not a Chief. I get that a lot. It's an unfortunate situation that my nickname is also a pretty decent Navy rank! CPO is actually a derivative of my name... People have been calling me that for many years....and it sorta became my brand/identity.

  10. Make sure you watch my other video on why I selected this. No question this far exceeds the factory alarm. Also adds remote start. Pulling the relay is smart... But doesn't really protect anything else. Lots of folks having batteries/doors/tires/wheels/steros stolen... So I decided it was time to put some security in place. Breaking out a window or cutting the soft top won't trip a factory alarm.

  11. You Mentioned the remote start feature.. I have a 6sp manual.. Still peaks my interest as that I could just pull the ebake and leave it neutral..  BTW, Been watching your videos for awhile... Thumbs up!

  12. Excellent video as usual. I had just started looking into alarms just before you started the series, so this is a huge help. And thanks for your attention to detail. Looking forward to the next one.

  13. Thanks! And yeah... the ability to have remote start in a manual (with the safety feature) is huge.

  14. Discount code not being accepted right now. Tried to purchase same system and kept getting error messages

  15. That's because that harness hasn't been released yet. The website has this instruction: 'STAY TUNED, PACKAGES WILL BE RELEASED BY NOV 3RD IN LIMITED QUANTITIES. EMAIL US TO BE NOTIFIED AND GET YOUR SYSTEM FIRST!" If you are interested still, I would email them to get on the list.

  16. I have the factory alarm and factory remote start too. I was concerned that would get in the way of this system so I called the Omega and they told me it wouldn't be a problem. I then talked to the folks at Kicky and they agreed.

  17. Billy Trainor that's great news!
