The melted and brittle multifunction switch harness plug... it's a pretty common issue of the mid-2000s Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge vehicles... There is lots of speculation on why this happens, but many agree its because they decided to run way too many amps into a single switch. The switch connector gets very hot, and melts on the Batt+ side (as mine did) and the overall connector becomes very fragile. Replacement is the best solution.
I bought this http://amzn.to/2E4VjBO but didn't use any of the wires. See this video to learn how to remove the existing wires: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syRUAg4A_ns
If you need just a connector, maybe you can find it by itself... but I couldn't.
Here's the pinout reference I used:

ReplyDeleteNot an easy job. Reminds me of when I started out as a technician. I've rebuilt many cable's and PC broads. Must have been fun back then because I ended up becoming an electrical engineer.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work.
It's tedious work for sure...but rewarding when it's finished!
