Two things going on in this video.
First is an answer to a callout from my friend Nate over at the SWBCrawler YouTube channel. He started a challenge to Jeep YouTubers to create a video about what you would do differently if you started your build over again - or if you started a fresh build, how you would do it. You can watch his original callout video here:

Secondly is a tough thing for me, but I finally decided to share some info about my good friend who was seriously injured in an accident after a day of wheeling at AOAA. You can find the GoFundMe mentioned in the video here:

If you started your build over, what would you do different?
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing along! And not wanting to change much isnt lame. :P Im pretty happy with my jeep as it is too, but in a sense, this is my 3rd "restart". :P
ReplyDeleteGreat video. And thank you for calling us out we really appreciate it!! I really liked what you would have changed I know I love our Rubicon transfer case with the 5.13 gears on the Rocks. We have followed along watching you build that awesome Jeep forever and I appreciate the way you systematically replace and do your build. You’re videos have helped me several times. Look forward to telling what We would do differently. And very sorry to hear about your friend hope things start going better for her and the family.
ReplyDeleteI have a 16 Willy’s and was in the same boat but to be honest I still wouldn’t have bought a Rubi...I would have bought a Sport. Rubicon has the same weak points as any model so buy a Sport then switch out axles, transfer case, etc and you’re still well under $50K for a Rubi.
ReplyDeleteLiving, learning & growing is part of life & so is Jeeping. You grow & change as your needs do, so this is just part of the lifestyle that we all accepted. Enjoy all your vids, keep 'em coming brah.
ReplyDeleteJust subscribed to SWBCrawler, gotta give love to my fellow PA Jeepin' brother.
Very sorry to hear about your dear friend. Just donated to her cause, because this is not how off roading should be remembered.
Praying for her to have a complete healing!!!
I agree with you on almost everything. Sometimes (almost always) you buy a part that gets you what you need but on the budget you have and then get something better as you can. That being said I sold my 85 CJ on 39s with dana 44s, lockers, and a 360 v8. I spent a while debating on the route I wanted to take, buy a sport and build it swapping axles, tc, etc etc, Or by a Rubicon as a start. In the end I bought a used 2017 Rubicon Hard Rock with 6k miles and no modifications (it had never even had the top off). It came Jeeps certified used 100k mile warranty and was cheaper than most modified sports new. I added my lift, and other things and am very happy I went this way. Only thing I would change is adding a v8 as a factory option.......
ReplyDeleteI did the very same as you. Went with a Willys and wish I would have went Rubicon lol.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Thanks. We will get this done after SEMA. crazy busy week right now
ReplyDeleteRoger that! Don't worry... it took me forever to sit down and make mine! lol
ReplyDeletePrayin brother. Hopefully I get to follow you on a trip once I'm recovered from my spinal fusion next week. I know how hard it is to watch someone be changed and hurt and have to find a way to move on. Keep the faith!
ReplyDeleteWishing much luck to your friend. Not to take away focus from your friend but would really like to know what broke on her Jeep causing the crash. I'm assuming whatever broke on her rig was due to that days 4x4 wheeling trip?
ReplyDeleteIf you have the 3.6l with the NAG tranny. I've found there really isn't much depreciation in the T case so a new one might be worth it and a safer option and if you have a Superchips calibrator you can program the new low range. But since I work for Chrysler and I'm a new tech I spend a lot of time learning from master techs and I've been told rebuild parts are cheap and easy to install. The only thing the master tech was unsure of was if the rear driveshaft was a different length. A rubicon T case is high on my list of upgrades and I'm continually trying to learn more about the swap.
ReplyDeleteI went and subbed your buddy.
ReplyDeleteBTW I really enjoyed this candid response. I would like more of these videos tbh
ReplyDeletesame as you.... Rubicon otherwise nothing
ReplyDeleteI'm on my 4th JK. Started with a Sport, then went with a Rubicon. Dog died so I traded it for a Grand Cherokee. Hated it and went with 2 door Willy's. Test drove a JL and didn't like it. Wanted a Recon so I traded it for a Recon. My main regrets are not taking parts with me. I had all 8 Alpines and 3.3 Falcons on my 2 door plus SteerSmarts Yeti. I will ultimately be doing all that on this Recon. I'm currently running 285's with Mopar 2" and Falcon 2.1's. I see 37's and coilers in my future and then I bet I will regret going to 37's because I'm pretty happy with how it rides, handles and perform now.
ReplyDeletePossibly something crazy...a build from AEV customs if $$ wasn't an option
ReplyDeleteWe don't really know what specifically broke. The Jeep is still secured and shrink wrapped from the time of the accident.
ReplyDelete#Eleenstrong hope she heals up and gets better soon. Great video man
ReplyDelete+Michael I think AEV is over rated on a lot of there components.
ReplyDeleteping! :-)
