In this video we continue working through the install of this alarm and remote start. What should be the hard part of an alarm install is really SUPER EASY thanks to the new Omega T-Harness. Literally plug and play for 95% of this install! We do that, and also tap into the brake switch in this video.
Here's the playlist containing all of the videos for this install:

PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT INFO!
So you want to install an alarm system and remote start into your Jeep Wrangler? Well… this is the page for you! What follows below is the complete video series regarding the selection, overview, installation, setup, and howtos of the Omega Excalibur AL-1775-3DB security system and remote start I installed in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler with automatic transmission. If you happen to have the same vehicle (including similar years) then this page should be a step-by-step guide for you. If you have a manual transmission, there will be some additional steps and wiring for you, and what exactly depends on what year your Jeep is. I tried to mention some of those things throughout the video series. If you have a 2017 or newer, also note that the access to the ignition switch harness is a little different. I’ll also try and help you out there.
Please watch all of the videos BEFORE YOU START your own installation. This is important because I may point out things in later videos that would be helpful to know about early on. It’s just part of the process. Once I get into the install, I know more about what exactly needs to be done, versus what I believe needs to be done. A great example of this is the wiring for the parking lights. In the wiring prep video, I told you that you needed three wires for this because that was the industry standard based on how the Jeeps were wired. However, in actual testing during the install (and working closely with the tech guys at Omega Research and Development) I found that only one wire was really needed. So I modified the harness from the original 9 wires, down to 7!! BONUS!!!

Lovin this series man. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteGreat series. Bought my system from Kickyrides. Opted for the digital tilt sensor instead of the mercury style.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I went with the "mercury switch" because I am doing the prox sensor. So the prox and the shock sensors take up the two analog dual-zone ports. Otherwise...that digital tilt is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI think there's an snap in adapter to expand the ports by 1 or 2. The digital tilt was a must for concerns about rims/wheels. I also went with the model above the 1775, for the expanded range and extra features. Install should be similar, with a few programming differences per Mike at KR. I may still have a shop install it for sake of time and tool expenditure. Still got a very robust system at a much lower cost than a viper/Clifford etc. For extra hood security I put a locking center latch on it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you got it figured out! I think I am eventually going to do a hood lock too. Yeah.. I can't believe the price point on these! And quality stuff too...not chinese knockoff sysems!
ReplyDeleteNice.. thanks for the detail.. if you have issues with your connections and don't like to solder I've liked these connectors (Ginsco 120 Pcs/60 Pairs Quick Splice Wire Terminals T-Tap Self-stripping with Nylon Fully Insulated Male Quick Disconnects Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CDWC60Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Dcs.zbVZFC5FT) back when I used to install alarm system they worked great.
ReplyDeleteThanks! You've touched on a pretty interesting topic. I did quite a bit of research on this, and settled with a non-soldered Military splice / tap as the one for the install because its a very strong and solid connection, and doesn't require any special skills (for my viewers). I love to solder! lol....but there is a disagreement in the pro community on whether soldering helps or hurts that joint. What everyone does seem to agree on is that the military mechanical joint is very good, and if done the way I show in video #4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0r8ZG-ACLU - I go to the bench at about 8:00 in the video) then it is as strong of a joint you will need. That means properly taped and secured. I mention the t-taps in that video segment as well. If people don't feel comfortable with the military tap, then I would definitely go that route.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to do these detailed installation videos!
ReplyDeleteOVERCLOCK3D Jeeps I agree that joint is strong from what I've heard; I've never tried it myself. I may give it a try and see. I think I'm just addicted to soldering.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see how many ways a person can skin the cat; of course there are about 100 comments on how you should do it.. hahaha
Goober Maniac right! So many opinions and options. I just have to pick one and roll with it! Lol.
