IT'S EASY!!! How To Program Transponder Keys for Late Model Jeep Wrangler

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiMNugU45mY&w=640&h=360]

In this video I show you how easy (and HARD) it is to add a new key for your late model Jeep. This process is likely similar for a variety of videos... so check out the link I share in the video for detailed instructions for whatever vehicle you have. These are the keys I am adding: http://amzn.to/2yroqbV. You can also get versions of these keys with the transceiver (buttons) and the programming steps are the same.

I added these keys because since I installed the Omega Excalibur alarm system, I no longer need the large factory Jeep key. This allows me to save some bulk and weight in my pocket.

  1. Hey CPO, do they need to be the two original keys? I bought the jeep used, and it only had one key, not sure if its original but it looks like it is, it has the buttons on it. I then had a transponder key made at the jeep dealer, so I had a spare key. So my question is do I need both original ones? Or is the transponder that jeep cut and programmed ok?
    Thanks CPO

  2. Jimmy Tierney they do not have to be original. They just have to be programmed. it's a subtle distinction but another way to make a key work is to clone an existing key. Using a clone key will not work with this process, but a properly programmed key such as the way I'm doing it in this video, or the way a dealer would do it, will work. I hope that helps! Based on what you said, you should have no problem.

  6. Jimmy Tierney as far as I'm aware... It's the same for 2007 and up. Hoping to get some work done on CJ's Jeep this weekend. We've been so busy with football and Lacrosse. He has a tournament Saturday, but we're going to try and make some progress on Sunday.

  8. +Sunny Sharif ha. Yeah... Hopefully this weekend you'll see a couple more videos on programming and features. Not positive I'll have time to install the process sensor, but it will be soon!

  9. Damn i was hoping you could do it with one factory original key

  10. You can't do this without TWO programmed keys - but one can be factory and the second aftermarket....but based on your comment, it sounds like you only have one key. That, I believe, requires a trip to the dealer and they program it using your VIN.

  12. Yeah... sorry.... they do that so you can't just "borrow" someone's key from their purse or pocket and program a new key without them knowing it. Sucks in your case tho.

  13. My 2016 would give out the beep tones for some reason but it worked when I did it last year. Had the keys cut near my patrol area where I work. Guess it helps to walk into the store in uniform lol. I ended up getting a large magnetic hideaway box from them for my fifth key. Felt like it was the right thing to do when they wouldn’t take my money to cut my blanks.

Oh and thanks no more background music I rather listen to you explain everything you do step by step nice work again CPO

  17. What happens if you only have one key

  18. You'll have to go to a dealer and have them program a second key (or whatever additional keys you want) for you. Unfortunately. If anyone else knows of a way around this, please let me know...but I think that's your only option.

  21. Hello I have a 2017 jeep wrangler with two original keys I tried programming a blank myself using your instructions but I turned on the blank key after I thought it programmed and it only started for like 10 seconds...what are your thoughts

  22. Mark That means it wasnt programming successfully. Try it again. Give more time between steps. Watch the light to see if it's responding..
