I finally got the Rock Hard 4X4 fuel tank skid installed. Did I absolutely HAVE to remove the tank... nahh... probably not. But I am glad I did, so I could clean and straighten it up some. A lesson I learned here is sometimes you need a bigger hammer! lol
I hope this is helpful for those wanting to know how to remove the skid or drop the tank in your driveway, and in particular, how to remove the skid and tank hanger without dropping the tank. I didn't mention this in the video, but I did have less than a 1/4 tank of gas when I did this. The less gas the better!

Great video. This skid is on my short list.
ReplyDeleteI’d wrap a chisel really good In tape and give that trouble area a good tap just to clearance it out and touch it up with some rattle can looks awesome tho 🤟
ReplyDeleteWhat were you using for the rust that turns black? Have read about many products but haven’t bought anything yet. Not sure if that was what you were spraying that was green or if you used something else after. Thanks
ReplyDeleteVery nice.. Any reason you went with this skid plate over the Metalcloak?
ReplyDeleteNo specific reason. I just went with RH4x4 for several things. (cage, sliders, and skids)
ReplyDeleteOspho... That was the product I showed.
ReplyDeleteGreat Video, I hope the longarm bolt wil not start rattling against the skid plate...maby not now but later on. I would cut the bolt. It's excess material anyway ;-)
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] sweet, thank you. Will have to get a friend from the US to get me some, $80 Can. per quart on amazon Canada or $21US a quart and $80/gal on US amazon
ReplyDeleteNice to know. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteGreat fix on the old bent bracket and combining them made sense. Did you rattle can the old bracket after the using Ospho?Seems both pieces could use slightly larger drain holes to give the mud a chance to wash out.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at they're skid system and this video pretty much has made my decision for me. Thanks! Oh and I don't know if the camera was playing games or not but it looks like you have a crack in your axle tube on your rear passenger side under your coil spring...
ReplyDeleteWhat size are the bolts that attach the factory skid to the frame? I need one but a bit longer for my rock sliders that bolt to the frame.
ReplyDeleteThis might sound like a stupid question but why didn't the new skid plate just replaced the old one?
ReplyDeleteBecause of the fact that the factory skid is also the tank hanger and for liability reasons they recommend keeping the factory hanger. That's all I can tell you. 😁
