I threw on a camera really quick while I was in the middle of a tire rotation. I figured I'd show my process. I have spline drive lugs and locking lug nuts. Sorry the camera angle wasn't amazing. But I'm sure you get the point.
Have had my Jeep for 3 years and have yet to do a tire rotation. But my spare is also a different color so that's my excuse. Plus the fact that my jack isn't tall enough.
This might be a complete n00b question, but what is in between the tread blocks on your rear driver side tire? Looks like a two-inch strip on every other gap between the blocks.
You need to rotate..... it will definitely get you longer life out of your tires because it will even out the tread wear. Even if you only do a 4 tire rotation so that your different colored spare can stay on the back, it's worth the effort. In a 4-tire rotation, both rear tires move straight forward to the front and the front tires criss cross to the rear. Right Rear -> Right Front, Left Rear -> Left Front, Right Front -> Left Rear, Left Front -> Right Rear. Also... if you don't have a jack that works, what happens if you have a flat?
I'd like to say I do it every oil change (5,000 - 7,000 miles)... but sometimes I am lazy and they get rotated later. That's what happened here. I did the oil change a few weeks ago, but didn't have time to rotate... and then it got cold.

You have a good system down. How often do you rotate them?

ReplyDeleteNot a n00b question at all... those are Stone Ejectors. They protect the bottom of groove from stone drilling.
