It's that time of year! Everyone is asking how to get their stuck doors off their Jeeps! Here's how I do it. It wasn't the most elegant example of how it works, but hey... this is real life. :-)
Chris, i had to use a 1x2 today on all 4 doors. Simple lever action. I used a little garage door lube, and wiggled. One thing too, that I think makes it worse, especially in Michigan, is having the "security" nuts off. Road grime, salt, brine water, etc, get up inside the hinge and gunks it all up. I'm also going to install the Derlin bushings before I put my doors back on.
Thanks! Yeah, I have one of those too... it has been used for most of my videos, I trip on it, pull my camera over with it, and it's constantly knotted and tangled. It was just recently that I bit the bullet and searched out an inexpensive wireless mic.
Loosen the hinge screws.. but don’t remove them.. raise the jack slowly.. and when the pin pops free, the hinge screw will prevent the door from popping off..
Haha, it was funny to watch you move the door back and forth while pushing up with your leg, that's *exactly* what I do. What lubricant should I be putting in the hinges when the doors are off?
Also... shows why it's important to get as close to the hinge side of the door as possible. It looks like with his sliders he may have gotten as close as he could though... hard to tell in the pic.
Antiseize or a marine type lubricant is what most people use. It tends to get gummed up regardless unfortunately. I'm going to try the upgraded sleeves and see if that makes a difference.
Glad I watch this video. I went to take of my rear doors for the first time a couple of days after watching this video, and low and behold, they were stuck. Well, I did not panic and went and grabbed the floor jack and a piece of wood, and boom, off they came. Great advice!
NoCoRideshare just be careful... If they are REALLY stuck and the jack doesn't easily pop them off.... Stop. Some folks have had problems with the bottom of the door bending. Not good. I've never had that problem, but it does happen.
Good tips! I never had to break out the jack, but sometimes they're pretty stuck!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI could not find my WD40 so I grabbed the PAM cooking oil spray from the kitchen and voila!
ReplyDeleteAnd your chicken won't stick! :-)
ReplyDeleteAre you still using the factory liners/bushings? Get these from TMR, made right here in Ontario, Canada. You will never have to worry about your door pins sticking again. https://www.tmrcustoms.com/ca/jeep-specific/jeep-delrin-door-hinge-liners-bushings

ReplyDeleteWhat lapel Mic are you using?
ReplyDeleteI'm using this: https://amzn.to/2reFT4Z
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] Awesome. I have one with a long cord. Need to invest in a wireless one. Love your videos.

ReplyDeletePB Blaster worked
ReplyDeleteLots of ways to solve this problem. I prefer this as it's cleaner! :-)
ReplyDeletegreat sound
ReplyDeleteMy channel is craig crawmer I'd like u to shout me out below
ReplyDeleteI tried that one time and the door flew out and I had to catch it.

ReplyDeleteI do the same thing but while I'm lifting I wiggle the door back and forth. Doesn't require as much pressure on the bottom of the door to break free.
ReplyDeleteMy buddy, SANDMAN, tried this last summer and the knife edge of the door buckled. Now he has a turned in lip on the bottom of the door. I wish YouTube allowed me to attaché a photo. So, be careful. I suggest putting the blocks under the inside cup of the door instead of the knife edge.
ReplyDeleteWow..yeah saw that. Anything is possible, right? He must have had to put a lot of pressure on that door, huh?

ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] We do a lot of OBX runs so sand jammed him up.
ReplyDeleteChange out the door sleeves with delrin sleeves.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, been there done that. Then you bend your door and it cost 300 bux to have your body guy fix it...

ReplyDeleteI have a set on the way.
ReplyDeleteI was just going ask this. I have a set to put on now. One or two of the doors are stiff.
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] I believe we are neighbors. Live near by that is.
ReplyDeletei changed to delrin......its nite and day
ReplyDeleteBe careful doing it this way, I had bent the bottom of the door doing mine this way.

ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] yeah they came off very easy. It didn't really take much with the jack.
ReplyDeleteYea the delrin bushings with the supplied tapout tool is a huge diffefence. Lil pricey but well worth it.
