I had to do a little troubleshooting to figure out why the Jeep wouldn't start, so I decided to take you through process in case this ever happens to you. Symptom: Starter doesn't even try and come on when turning the key. No click. Nothing. You can hear the starter relay trigger. Battery seems good. But it just won't crank.
Pure genius!! Lol, love the videos. I learn more and more watching your videos so please keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me January 1st. Jeep wanted me to spend several hundred on a new steering column but I found the broken part used from Daveys Jeeps. What a pain.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the detailed troubleshooting steps.
Sounds like it would be worthwhile to build a "pin" bypass lead and crank the starter from the battery....how about a video for that ....should be few inches of wire, connectors, and a toggle switch....yes?
ReplyDeleteDaveys Jeep is a great place for parts. You can also get a new ignition actuator from a auto parts store that sell Dormen Parts. They make the actuator for $40. But you have to assemble it. And it can be a pain. Dealer Ships want you to buy a new steering column.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather it just work from the key as normal...but yeah... you could just make a wire like I did and add a switch and run it to any 12v source and trip the starter whenever you want. I've seen people do this. If I ever get stranded for this reason again... I know know exactly what to do... screwdriver from the hot post on the starter solenoid to that male spade for the control wire oughta fire it right up so long as the key is in the on position.
ReplyDeleteJack Homitz I bought a new actuator and switch from AutoZone... Done and done.
ReplyDeletePush start
ReplyDeleteWe tried that before putting it on the truck and it didn't fire.
ReplyDeleteNah... I'll fix it proper. This is my son's first vehicle, and I want it to be "normal" :-)
ReplyDeleteno joke this happened to me last week on my tj!
ReplyDeleteUmmDavid did you get it fixed?
ReplyDeleteSuperbe champion 03D le kind de la jeep 💪👍
ReplyDeleteGood job troubleshooting!
ReplyDeleteGood reason to not have a heavy set of keys. Other than it's obnoxious and annoying off road.
ReplyDeleteI love Jeep, not only because of its superior performance, strong horsepower, but also because it is a display of your personality car, I like to modify my Jeep, so that it is full of personality,https://www.ebay.com/sch/jiamengel/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=,If you also like to modify your Jeep, I strongly recommend you to buy accessories here, the quality of the accessories here is very good, and the price is very cheap,http://m.ebay.com/sch/szjdx01/m.html?_nkw=&_ipg=&_from=&isRefine=true&_mwBanner=1&_armrs=1
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] I did only after I spent a day changing wires thinking a few have gone bad, but I’m happy she’s working now
ReplyDeleteI have to think how many more potential problem points there would be on the JL if the symptom was that the starter was not turning over. I think the car manufacturers are intentionally trying to make the vehicles more complicated so as to make it so that you *have* to take your vehicle into the dealership to get a problem diagnosed. :(
ReplyDeleteMore "features" equals more complexity, equals more potential failure points. :(
Had the same problem in an 06 Liberty and had it towed too. Next morning woke up and found the same problem. I wish you would of messaged me on insta haha. Glad you got it fixed pal!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of stuff hanging off your key chain, all that extra weight is why it broke.
