I decided to upgrade to the latest Seicane Android head unit, and so I picked up this, the H201G. It has an 8 core processor, 4GB of RAM and is running Android 8. My only concern was the reports of it not working well with the factory Alpine amplifier and sub. Because of that, and to save myself some time and grief, I used the PAC RP4-CH11 harness for this installation.

That's night and day how much snappier it is compared to the old one. Thats the one thing that kind of stinks with the quad core version and even my wife says it's annoying to wait to start driving so maps can load if we need it. Thanks for the video!
ReplyDeleteStill wished they did a RHD version... :'(
ReplyDeleteMatthew Cavazos bass is noticeably better using the PAC. If I could go back in time, I'd use it for the original install.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you do with old one ? Is this new one better ?
ReplyDeleteDo you find the large screen a distraction while driving?? Im on the fence about 10.1 inch screen and its almost plug and play ability.
ReplyDeletespartan463 no...it's not distracting any more than a normal stereo....but I do have to remind myself that when I'm driving I need to leave it alone. It's no different than having to train yourself to put the phone down. I absolutely love the huge screen for navigation!
ReplyDeleteI have a 2014 jeep jk 2 door sport. I dont have the amp or sub I believe or most of the steering wheel controls. Can I just leave the back stock and just plug it in? Also I need to buy a gps to mount in the dash any tips with that?
ReplyDeleteDoes seicane make an apple platform?
ReplyDeleteNo... This will connect to your iphone via bluetooth for phone calls, audio, etc. You can do some limited screen mirroring too
ReplyDeleteI still have the old one. This one is faster.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to use the oem microphone with this setup for hands free calling?
ReplyDeleteHey OC3 I'm thinking of trying to custom fit that radio in my 09 jku. You want to sell the old one or donate it.
ReplyDeleteI will go through your videos for the switchable camera system install. What is the brand? I really love that.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried to make it work but it's not a plug n play thing. The Seicane does come with an external mic and a built in mic in the front. I've always just used the built in one...
ReplyDeleteO3DJeeps I have the factory 430n I've thought about going the seicane route it looks really good installed
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting back to me. How's the noise cancellation on the built-in mic?
ReplyDeleteUntil someone other than Alpine makes a WATERPROOF unit, I'm gonna stick with my Alpine Restyle... 😎
ReplyDeletewhat year is your JK? I have a 2017 and so far they don't appear on the website to be for 2017. Looks great though. Be interested in how you feel about it in 6 months.
ReplyDeleteThey making them for the 2017 yet? or way to customize dash piece to fit? I emailed them but crickets. maybe you have better contact info?
ReplyDeleteI've been subscribed to your channel for only a couple of months. Wow...you've been pumping some money into your rig. You're out with a new vid very frequently with all kinds of mods and upgrades. Looks great! Congrats...keep it going!
ReplyDeleteCan you have a background pic,or a screen saver?
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about Android but still found this very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou are always very thorough with your DIY videos. Thank you!
ReplyDeletePeople that arent mobile audio savvy dont realize how sonically junkie these Chinese Android HU truly are, all people see is a budget alternative to a Restyle...and I'm no advocate for those insanely overpriced, overhyped Alpines either. You can barely turn volume up 1/4 without signal clipping on any Seicane. People think it has to sound distorted for it to clip...not the case. You Might think it sounds decent to the ear, meanwhile it's cooking your speakers a lil at a time like a kid cuisine plate. Put a distortion dectector to it & set for 40Hz/1kHz & watch it clip before you can crank the volume a 1/4 turn. Look at it from a different perspective...most reputable HU manufacturers offer 1/2 the features but theyre all double dins, so what would make people think that Seicane could cram all those features and then some in a single din chasis?
ReplyDeleteThe problem with audiophiles is that they assume everyone cares about audio quality the same as them. :-) I don't see this as a budget alternative to a Restyle at all... not even a little. Show me a restyle with a full android OS. You assume audio quality is the most important thing to me. You'd be wrong. Not once in any video that I made with this radio did I talk about how it has better sound quality than even my stock 430 that I removed. There are more important things to me... and that's what I get out of this radio.
ReplyDeleteI have as sucky of a time with them as anyone else. I assume the dash for the 17 is the same for the 15, is it not?
ReplyDeleteI assume the dash for the 17 is the same for the 15, is it not? I installed the first one almost a year ago... that ought to tell you how I feel about it. I just upgraded because this one has a newer OS and a faster CPU.
ReplyDeleteJust plug it in then... and you don't need a GPS. It comes with a GPS antenna, or you might have an antenna already installed in your jeep even if its not being used.
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] Thank you very much for taking time to answer my question. Keep up the good work I love your jeep content!
ReplyDeleteThe 15 had the small speaker the 17 has a round speaker. they say there will be a gap. any pics of the left side of the dash that they sent would be helpful. Part that goes over the steering wheel. That seems to be the only reason it won't fit. I may could trim it down, not sure or would factory piece be modified to mate the Secaine piece, unit housing?
ReplyDeleteValyrian_ Steel_JK I've been trying to tell people the same exact thing but it falls on deaf ears. It's crazy, try to do the right thing and warn people who arent in the know & they wanna rip into you & get butt hurt because nobody wants to hear that they spent their money on a piece of junk. I've SMD DD1'd a few & have even seen some clip with volume at 0, preout voltage is a joke. The thing is not everyone cares for it's fidelity, they just want the other features which in that case it's fine but if you're into sound quality, better off getting a $100 Pioneer deck & tablet mount like Carrich.
ReplyDeleteCan I get your old one
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it customized! Are you gonna do a Nova launcher restore of your previous setup? Also why dont you use the sirius/xm app instead of the dongle?🤔
ReplyDeleteI installed this unit after watching your first vids, I love mine! Your first install video was very helpful, thank you. only issue I currently experience is the head unit reports the passenger side doors as the driver side and visa versa, let me know if you've experienced this!
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to upgrade the OS?
ReplyDeleteHello, I can see you have used "PAC RP4-CH11" with the seicane new model, will it work with the old one? I am facing drastic reduction in base and audio quality from the time I installed this head-unit. specially that my speakers are original alpine coming from Jeep so noticed major change from stock head-unit to Seicane. Also did you use additional amplifier or it is only this unit which improved the audio quality.
ReplyDeletejust order after your video :), i dont have buildin subwoofer is it a plug an play installation for me than?
ReplyDeleteBTW what is the differences between the two links i am confused https://www.seicane.com/hd-touch-screen-2011-2016-jeep-wrangler-android-gps-navigation-radio-with-mirror-link-obd2-digital-tv-wifi-bluetooth-music-steering-wheel-control-rearview-camera-s301171

They look the same to m. If you look at the model number for both of them, it's the same. H201G
ReplyDeleteYes... Plug and play
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] it's just strange they have two different links, I hope I got the right one :)
ReplyDeleteDo you retain all steering wheel controls, or just volume, mode and phone?
ReplyDeleteLet me say wow. Looks like you got it figured out. I have the same unit that I have not got working. For the last 90 days. Siecane has the worst customer service. The even had me change something with the mcu file. I don't have the same interface you have. I would love some help getting this working. I would like to double check every setting in there can bus settings. Never had audio untill a week ago when they told me to change can bus to jeep/kress(simple) but still alot of problems and no reply from them. Can you help a guy out
ReplyDeleteAny update?
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask if the old one would be for sale
ReplyDeleteAnyone knows answer to the above? Please support
ReplyDeleteK Gray not yet
ReplyDeleteone question. did you have to program the jeep for the reverse cam or did it work out of the box. my jeep did not come with a reverse camera I hooked one up with the power to it going to the reverse lights. and it is not working on my radio.
ReplyDeleteAnyone has the expertise to answer the above please? haven't got any answer yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat! I have the same in my Jeep. How ever I don´t have any sound out from the speaker when im using Spotify or YT! Radio works.. Very strange!
ReplyDeleteSame here!
ReplyDeleteHaving something similar here.. no sound when im using Sportify or YouTube app.. The radio app works fine :D and playing music from my phone via BT
ReplyDeleteHow do you have it wired? What about bluetooth sound. All of that stuff comes out of the front speakers, and if it's only using the rear channels for the feed to the Jeep amplifier, then it's missing all that stuff. As you saw in mine, I wired the fronts to the rears...
ReplyDeleteBT sound works just fine, as for the default radio app.. Its just sound from YT and Spotify that does not work.
ReplyDeleteI have not done anything the the wiring. So you suggest to re-wire it?
Great channel by the way ;) enjoy all your videos.
Overlanding.nu go into the factory settings and the voice menu and make sure that everything is turned up there. The default settings which are on mine are iPod 6, sys 8, av in 8, radio 7, BT 6, and DVD 0
ReplyDeleteThank you for your help.. however it did not solve the problem. The strange part is that apart from having sound from the radio and BT devices, there is all so sound from touching on buttons, until you enter for ex YT or Spotify, then every sound is gone. The only way to have it back again is to power on the radio app.
ReplyDeleteWill see if Seicane have an solution..
Yes.. use the PAC harness with the old one. It will make a big difference
ReplyDeletehello any tip or idea why my youtube wont play ? no sound no picture!?
ReplyDeleteDoes the factory backup camera work with this unit ???
ReplyDeleteAs far as the JK goes, there is no such thing as a factory backup camera.
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] thanx for the reply and the videos are great
ReplyDeleteSo I've gone and done an install for this exact unit and love it already but using the same pac module on my 17 rubi I'm not getting and steering wheel controls. I'm hoping seicane can help out.
ReplyDeleteSo I've gone and done an install for this exact unit and love it already but using the same pac module on my 17 rubi I'm not getting and steering wheel controls or Sub. I'm hoping seicane can help out.
ReplyDeleteHey OC3,
ReplyDeleteBeen watching your videos and reseachering this unit...lots of people are saying volume stopped working after a few weeks. Any issues with yours?
Thanks
I made an order for my jeep waiting almost 13 days nothing came and their service via email is terrible they write in their website delivery time between 3-4 days ridiculous
ReplyDeleteOC3,
ReplyDeleteThis video was incredibly helpful when installing. I have a weird one for you.. I’ve wired up and installed everything. Radio works along with Bluetooth from my phone. As soon as I open YouTube or pandora my audio goes silent but video will play. Is there something in the settings internally that I can fix this? Did I miss a wire connection? Bluetooth calls- they can hear me but I cannot hear them. Any tips or advice would be super helpful. Love your content! Thanks!
UPDATE! I received an email from Secaine today that states this until will fit 2017 JKU. Website updated to reflect this! Ordered, gonna, will be a lil more difficult to install O3, I have the factory sub and Sirus!! Anything you would have done differently now that you have had the new one in for a while?
ReplyDeleteDid you go with no SD card or use an adapter?
