NOTE: This came with an SMA connector which I had to change, but I needed to cut it off anyway to run the cable. This won't fit directly without an adapter or connector change.

Nice!
ReplyDeleteNice radio and install. 73
ReplyDeleteAmazing at how well you explain everything! You should be a teacher! Haha!
ReplyDeleteHa. I love teaching...I used to do technical instruction. Maybe that's why I like making YouTube video. 😄
ReplyDeleteo3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] That explains a lot! Love your work! Thank You!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a separate external speaker for your CB?
ReplyDeleteat that distance you could use a dummy load and he would hear you. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMancelonaMan same speaker. I'll be using a y connection to have them both share the speaker
ReplyDeleteLook forward to hearing more about the radio.
ReplyDeleteGreat video. I did a very similar install using the same mount on the passenger side, with a Diamond NR73B antenna, and a yaesu FT-7900. But my SWR isn't as low. 444.000 @ 1.2 and 144.000 @ just under 2.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the reason for using a vhf/uhf instead of a CB radio?
ReplyDeleteFlonisha Merritt CHRIS????? LOL
ReplyDeleteAwesome setup, my only concern is the future of exposed water to rust from the bare metal on your antennae mount bracket do you foresee that being as issue?. Once again awesome setup. Thanks
ReplyDeleteIt could be a couple things, could be a coaxial issue (not exactly 50 ohms) could be an interference issue with the center load and “A” pillar creating an inductive or capacitive load...and a few other unlikely things... while ~1.9:1 SWR isn’t ideal....the losses are still only a couple of percent and in real life situations, you would probably never see an appreciable difference in performance between 1.9:1 and 1:5:1 SWR....hooking it up to an antenna analyzer would tell a bit more information also...as long as there isn’t excess heat that the unit and fan (if equipped) cannot handle, you should be OK also to be considered is that antenna is 2 5/8L on 440 which makes for a lot of gain but requires loading to bring down to 50ohms...could be the antenna needs a little tuning which Diamond doesn’t seem to provide much information on...
ReplyDeleteB McD that's why I was careful to only sand the parts that were covered. There are no exposed bare metal sections. I was considering putting some sealant around the edges of the bolts and the bottom of the bracket....but I wanted to make sure everything was good first.
ReplyDeleteI love your "Jeep Jeep" decal. Where could I get one? Thanks for your great videos !
ReplyDeleteI'll explain in an upcoming video
ReplyDeleteJim https://stickylee.com/ is where I got mine. Their website appears broken....so you can probably contact them and share the video or a screenshot to tell them what you want.
ReplyDeleteKirk Armstrong He could hear me without the radio. Were you hoping for a range test? Hahaha. I just enjoy the "first transmission" on a new radio
ReplyDelete... so thought I'd share with you!
o3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] I know you were just letting us know how the audio was. was just joking with you.
ReplyDeleteyou are going to do the mars mod to speak to the people on RR radios frs 73s
ReplyDeleteKirk Armstrong you weren't wrong hahaha
ReplyDeleteChris Hale ...well as long as my radio dosen't blow up on me...lol. thanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see a proper wiring/ham radio install! Good Job! KK6JYX
