When I was researching exhausts, I found the Dynomax Quiet Crawler, and I thought it might be a good fit for my needs. The problem is, they don't make the system anymore. However, I found (thanks to a forum post over at wayalife.com) that the parts are available separately and that it was possible to piece your own system together. So that's what I did.

So, here is the instructions for the original quiet crawler system (it's a rear dump behind the axle):

Here's the instruction where I found the downturn and hanger bracket:

Here are the parts (Amazon links, but you can shop around and take advantage of promotions). They are listed in order of my install.

I know some folks who just take off the factory muffler and run with just the resonator and the pipe that loops over the axle. Totally illegal of course. Fun for them, but it gets annoying on the trail cause all you hear is the drone of their engine. Question though, why not throw some of that nifty heat shield on your axle?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, love your videos CPO.
John Kaldeway yeah... This is a much quieter solution than cutting the stock muffler off! 😄 Funny you mentioned the shield on the axle. I'm trying that now to see if I can assess the value.
ReplyDeleteMost people seem to think it's a dumb idea. Hahaha
John Kaldeway oh. Here's the link on Instagram of the axle. It looks like it's a complete wrap, but it's just stuck to the side facing the exhaust.

Work for 2 door?
ReplyDeleteYou do a great job with vids about mods and installs...let's however see you do some vids wheeling. Cheers from Denver CO
ReplyDeleteCan't hurt. You have no idea how many dumb ideas i've tried on my jeep. some of them work, others don't. can't do better unless you have the freedom to try.
ReplyDeleteWorst part is that it's tough to run the camera and drive the Jeep when I'm out wheeling. So I actually get very little video because I just sometimes want to enjoy being out. Moab is coming up, and hopefully I'll get some good footage. In the meantime.... go watch all of these wheeling videos I've already posted! lol

Here are a few videos posted on other channels that involve me on the trails (that I can quickly find - but many of these are different perspectives from the same trip):

I don't think so... it's too long of a setup for the 2 dr. Maybe if you just went with the single exhaust... like the second instruction sheet shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah... one thing is for sure... much of the stuff I've done to my Jeep isn't what everyone else is doing. :-)
ReplyDeleteA few weeks back I swapped my Flowmaster American Thunder kit for the Magnaflow Off-Road Pro kit. Your system is very similar to my new one. My issue is the drone, your kit doesn't drone so that's awesome! The Magnaflow kit is quite a bit louder than this setup, so it can be pretty annoying at times. The Off Road Pro is just a single straight through type muffler and a 3" turndown pipe. Yours seems like a really nice quieter option for before the axle dump. Great video!
ReplyDeleteA "well hung" man once said: I'm exhausted lol.
ReplyDeleteNice exhaust so very quite at least on video 👍
Gary Klassen it's really quiet.
ReplyDeleteDid a very similar Dynomax mod to my '13 JKU but added a Vibrant resonator to mine in place of some pipe, which sounds very nice. I've read loads of comments on the web about that plastic wrap—people actually asking why they smell something awful after the install. Whoops.

ReplyDeleteSounds really good!
ReplyDeleteAnother well documented video with plenty of great info. I think the exhaust is at a perfect pitch and sound level. I hate nothing more than seeing a Tits’d out jeep fly by me sounding like it has a fart can ‘ricer’ exhaust welded on. Great stuff brother!!!!
ReplyDeleteDynomax mufflers are junk.Put one on my XJ and seperated internally within one year.Made a loud rattling at idle.
ReplyDeleteAnother good video was most impressed with the amount of research you did prior to obtaining the different parts and the installation of the heat shield material something that I personally wouldn't have thought of. Great job Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI have the magnaflow that I pieced together. I am adding a resonator like this kit has and I hope it gets rid of the angry bee drone!
ReplyDeleteMy exhaust has been in that same location for about a year with no issues with heat on the axle. I was initially worried but I have not seen any excessive heat build up.
ReplyDeleteThe drone from the Magnaflow Off Road Pro kit is one of the worst I've had in a vehicle in a very long time. I would be very interested to hear if adding the resonator helps as I like the sound of the kit (from the outside)
ReplyDeleteIs this significantly louder than the stock muffler, and will this work on a 3.8L Jeep?
ReplyDeleteJust putting this out there also ripp supercharger makes a exhaust for jk that isn’t loud or drone and works on both 2 door and 4 door its the same part number for both 2 and 4 door u just cut down the pipe on the 2 door. Great job tho on vid and exhaust love your videos.
